Spot-checks miss what continuous monitoring catches
A twice-daily manual reading tells you the temperature at two moments. Excursions do not schedule themselves around those moments.
Reefer and trailer
Temperature and humidity logged continuously through the run, with door-open events timestamped against location so a warm reading has an explanation attached.
Walk-ins and freezers
The same sensors cover cold rooms, reach-ins and freezers. Power loss, compressor failure and a door left ajar all look different in the data, and all raise an alert before the stock is a write-off.
Audit-ready history
Every reading retained and exportable. When a customer's quality team or a regulator asks what happened on a given date, the answer is a file, not a recollection.

FSMA Sanitary Transport
The Sanitary Transportation of Human and Animal Food rule (21 CFR Part 1, Subpart O) expects shippers and carriers to demonstrate that temperature control was maintained. Continuous logging is how that demonstration is made.
HACCP critical limits
Where temperature is a critical control point, monitoring has to be continuous or at a defined frequency, with records retained and deviations documented.
Good Distribution Practice
GDP programmes expect mapped storage areas, continuous monitoring at the points mapping identified as worst-case, and a retained record of excursions and the response to them.
NIST-traceable sensors
Sensors are available with multi-point calibration traceable to NIST, with certificates on file — because an audit tends to ask not only what the sensor read, but why that reading should be believed.
